Depending on the light, the granite shields that line the Loch Avon basin are gold or blue. I spent three June days in the basin, climbing sun warmed slabs, staying up with the almost-midnight sun, drinking lots of coffee and hiding from showers under the Shelterstone (a huge natural room hidden in a jumble of elephant sized boulders). This view was taken from where we slept on the first night, opposite our climbing objective for the next day: a 300m route on the Shelterstone face. Sleeping felt absurd as we were bathed in orange light until 11pm.
