View from the Aiguille Verte

Limited edition giclee print (unframed)

On my first trip to the Alps I was fortunate and foolish enough to agree to climbing the Grand Montets ridge to the summit of the Aiguille Verte. The route was challenging, and took three days. The lift station that historically served the route had burnt down a few years ago, so a long approach and a lack of any other climbers added to the exposure and feeling of being pretty far out (a rarity in that part of the world). Although I can admit now that I was well out of my depth, watching an electrical storm at 4000m in a far off vally, summiting in first light, and a descent so long it wore the skin off my toes are things I won’t forget for a while. This work is a homage to blistered lips, bruised knuckles and alpenglow.
